India doesn't need your interpretation of Hinduism!

Before I start, I want to make it clear that this article is going to be highly influenced by Narendra Modi and the new face of India - The Guardian but  is strictly not about  Narendra Modi or discussing Indian politics. Enough has been read, written and published about the present scenario of Indian politics. What I worry about is the politicisation of Hinduism .Fine ! As a AAM AADMI ( in  aam terms, not in political terms) I am told to digest the fact that it is Politics .The whole hue and cry about Hindu, Hindutva  and RSS  is politics (that is what a non-political, Indian citizen would conclude by the present trend ) because for a Hindu;Hinduism is never about killing masses and violence.
The idea of Pankaj Mishra of  referring Narendra Modi as a Hindu  nationalist  With the rise of Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi   reminds me of the American presidential elections 2008.Obama Elected President as Racial Barrier Falls .Barak Obama and Narendra Modi have one thing in common in terms of representation.Obama has made history because he is the representative of minorities and  Modi has made history because he represents the majority. America, where almost every next film has a black character to promote the race, refers his newly appointed president as  its first black chief executive. See the irony!  you are determined to abolish the system and you are using the term once and again and I pity India born Anglo-Indian writers like Pankaj Mishra who are  blindly imitating  Western Media , their system and tradition ,just to grab attention of their sponsors who actually want to see India divided and distorted .People like Pankaj Mishra and others who are crying over the  secular future of India must understand that Hinduism and communalism are different aspects and Being Hindu does not mean Being communal. Just because a person is Hindu, You can't proclaim him communal.( It is like AIDS chhoone se nahi failta).Communalism is a disease but Hinduism is not a vector of it.  If you are trying to criticise any political person or a political party on the name of secularism, why you are taking help of a religion? I have serious objection on this trend of  negative interpretation of Hinduism all over the world. Here I would like to give an example which strongly demonstrate this situation. When I first started driving car, I ended up with two major accidents and in both cases ,I was driving right. I emphasis : I was driving right  but I was driving a car and the vehicles with which I met accidents were two wheelers. My instructor told me: Madam ! road pe galti chahe kisi ki bhi ho, harjana badi car walon ko hi dena hota hai. Now, relating this to the present context; In India, Hindus are majority and in any case, they are the ultimate victims ,doesn't matter  whosoever is guilty. Death of Hindus in communal riots is never an issue because they are majority .Don't the so called thinkers and self proclaimed Indian secular nationalists see the Godhra train burning as a threat to Indian democracy and secularism. Nevertheless, the whole concept of Hinduism is being targeted after the incidence which was a reaction to a mass killing. Hinduism does not teach to kill people  and Islam does not preach to burn people. Hindus and Muslims are facing the same problem of misinterpretation of their respective religion. Hindu is tired of saying "I am Hindu but I am not communal "and Muslims  are tired of proving " My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist".
Just because Nathu Ram Godse  was Hindu   and was also a member of RSS ,Pankaj Mishra has actually tried his best in his article to compare  Narendra Modi with him. See In 1948, a former member of the RSS murdered Gandhi for being too soft on Muslims. Why don't you talk about the Hindus who got killed during Indo-Pak Division and even now are getting killed. Mahatma Gandhi's last words were " He Ram! " and the person who killed him was a Hindu and even had a middle name Ram  and  the country where he was killed was Hindustan .As a Hindu what I see is  that day Hinduism was killed by a Hindu. and what you are interpreting is a Hindu killed a man who supported Muslims. World is free to criticise Narendra Modi but not because he is a Hindu.
Religion cannot and should not be personified. It is unfortunate that Indians who are getting an international platform to serve their country by their skills, are defaming their own country just for their personal propaganda. Hindus are inherently patient and tolerant and historically or practically, world does not need any proof of that. Nationalism  and Hinduism are independent terms. India has many nationalists who are Muslims and many corrupt leaders who are Hindus and  have looted this country. People who are trying to prove that secularism in India is in danger or the the world's largest democracy is entering its most sinister period since independence ,must  remember that the term secular was added to Indian Constitution much after Independence but it was Secular in its true sense even before this term was coined.  Historically,It is the same country where Akbar was born in the house of  a Rajput Warrior and if you dare to say us obsessed with our past then just a piece of advice . Go visit  Banaras! Take the Assi to Godaulia  route. All you would find is Saree Factories owned by Muslims. and when you reach Vishwanath Temple  ,You will find Gyanwapi Mosque. If you are a true Indian, Present this image of India in world. You need to learn more about Hinduism. India doesn't need your interpretation of Hinduism.

  1. Very thrilling dialogues Nidhi.. Superb!! I always say Mr. Nehru and Mr. Gandhi were wrong in their appeasement policies at that time and we are facing their impact till now. India faced first unequal behaviour when the Hindu act was enacted in 1955 even after a huge opposition by RSS and others not only because they were representing Hindus but also because they want it to get implemented as an universal civil code. We are still facing that unequal behavior even being in majority. Reservation for minorities was another issue that leads to inequality at several occasions. At that time also it was said that it is just to uplift the minorities and it should be reframed according to the time. But none cares. And the present scene is quite clear that is politics based on religion.
Regrading Godhra, you are very true while saying that none talks about train burning because the burning bodies belong to Hindus. We cannot say anything against Muslims and they openly say many things. With rise of BJP as major party in parliament, I hope the scenario will change a little bit and hope this unequal behaviour will come to an end. I wish our hopes will come true. This nation will be able to come out of these religion based politics and will think about development and progress keeping their religion in their personal life only.
