Towards a better democracy or towards the end of it?
We,the people of India are waiting for our next Prime Minister or Let's say We are waiting for a change. Is it a Change in our political system or it has other dimensions ? After a very long time,India is seeing such a massive interest towards Politics. Here in Banaras Hindu University, banaras/Varanasi or let's just say the KURUKSHETRA where Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal are contesting, things are like never seen before or anywhere else in the country, things are different from the past.People( I will not say rikshawalas and autowaalas,it is misleading and i find it a misuse of words to inluence a mass ) hailing from all backgrounds, know about The general elections 2014.In my whole life (You can call me unexperienced because it has been 26 years only) I was never so informed and excited about who being the Prime Minister. Yes ! I am not sure whether I am excited about the futur of Narendra Modi or Our primeministerial candidates or about film stars contesting or my country's political futur.
Talking about the political scenario ,There are a lot of things said by different political parties to accuse, defame, discourage and demoralize each other.Sometimes I think how can they say such things to each other. Can anybody be so mean and that also in public? The disheartening thing which is hard to believe and digest is that they have no fear,no shame as if they are entitled to say anything or to make any statements.Don't we ,the people of India have right to expect a bit decency from our national leaders? We want MOdi,We want Kejriwal,We want Rahul Gandhi,We want ........?( oops !no other name comes in my mind.)but don't we want some leaders who set an example for us( in some good world) .There are some in the scene but they are minorities. In this elections,Democracy has made history.
It has seen rise of Modi.
It has seen rise of Kejrival.
It has seen a different side of Priyanka Gandhi, never so angry and bitter.
It has seen white and kesariya caps.
It has seen a crowd of around 5 lakhs people gathered to support OR JUST TO HAVE A GLANCE of a candidate.
YES! one can actually feel elections, first in my lifetime ,I am feeling elections and can it be said that people are enjoying being a resident of World's largest democracy.
but I dont find many reasons to be happy except that voting is still our right and we are free to press any button. But are we free to reason ?
Are we free to think?
Are we free to reason the pros and cons?
Are we free to choose who we want?
Practically YES but actually NO.How many of us actually know or i would better say understand about living in the largest democracy of world. In India Elections are still not about preservation of rights, development or foreign policy or better things. In India elections are still about fighting the worst, about ROTI,KAPDA and MAKAN, us se kuch aage badh jayein Then caste, yahan kaam nikal gaya Then comes religion, community .AND NOW the leading trend is SCAMS and CORRUPTION.wow! What a scene? Leaders are giving hundred reasons for why we must not vote for the other party but are not able to convience why we should vote for them.Gujrat Model is one of the most advertised and effective agendas of this election but how many of supporters( karyakartas and public) do actually understand Gujrat model. As far I think, people are also not very much aware and really interested about black money and the corruption thing. They listen terms and then start follwing .We don't have access in documents of national security. So In India how are we choosing leaders? The answer is BY PRESSING BUTTONS.Some go with their favourite nishaan, some with family history ( and the funny thing is that they consider it as a matter of pride...areyy bhaiya hum to purane congressi hain, hamara to poora pariwar hi bhajpai hai) ,then comes caste ( areyy bhai pandit hain, pandit ko denge! humlog ke adhikaro ki raksha to hamari hi birdari ka koi karega,to hum to bhai apne hi biradari wale ko denge dusre jaat walo par vishwas nahi hai)
THEN COMES mandir and masjid...and a lot of things which unfortunately have nothing to do with democracy ideals.I like Mr. Kejriwal. Now a days ,I often get a chance to hear him,to see him but what I don't like is his decision to resign.I wanted him to keep trying in Delhi for what he promised.I understand that was difficult but that is why he is here in politics. For BJP, I am confused ,whether I like Narendra Modi OR BJP'S MANIFESTO( AFTER ALL manifesto is one of the strongest element for choosing our leaders) I am sure half of the population is still illiterate so how can they read one? Congress has become unpopular and old. I am tired of quoting the same person as our prime minister for such a long period and now after Sanjay Baru's Book I pity for the post of prime minister of India which people are forced to accept. Why was ManMohan Singhji there if he did't want to.Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have done nothing remarkable for India.I respect their father's sacrifice but why sons and daughters of other Martyrs are not there? I like Arvind Kejrival's honesty and I respect him but I don't see a strong vision and ideas necessary to run a country .Honestly, I don't know much about Narendra Modi ji but I must say that I am charmed by his interviews and I do see a ray of hope but this is all about three persons.I will vote for change but my idea of change is still unclear and undefined.I have to choose among people, not among ideologies.I wanted to vote for people who contest honestly, decently and ethically.I want to see politicians who respect their opponents or at least spare their private lives.I want leaders who can run this democracy not who make fun of it.I don't know whether we are moving towards a better democracy or towards the end of it?
This seems incomplete and leads us no where. Please complete this first. The writer talked about caste element very vehemently and no direction how to get rid of. It also suggest this election is awakening youth without mentioning million dollar investment by The BJP and The Congress, which is stinging Indian public day in and day out. This election is also an ordinary election where parties spur venom about each-other in public and behind the close doors they set deals. This is quite amazing that at-least some of our newly emerged scholars are airing their views passionately and healthy for democracy but many are not.
